Lighting is everything when it comes to accurate shot tracking. Whether you’re indoors or outside, GolfTrak needs to clearly see the club impact point and the ball in flight to deliver reliable metrics.
For indoor setups, even, well-lit spaces are key.
The phone’s camera needs to clearly see the ball flight between impact and screen/net, so consistent lighting in that path is crucial.
If you're using a lit impact screen, that usually provides enough light in the ball’s flight zone.
Make sure the area around your ball and club at impact is also well-lit—this helps GolfTrak pick up the exact moment of contact and improves overall accuracy.
GolfTrak works great outdoors—but only while there’s enough natural light to clearly track the ball.
Once the sun gets low (think: sun behind the horizon or early dusk), it becomes difficult to detect the ball’s flight.
You might notice tracking becomes inconsistent during the last 30–45 minutes of daylight, especially when the ball flight path falls into shadow.
We're constantly improving outdoor low-light performance, but for now, once it starts to look like sunset golf, you're near the limit of what GolfTrak can reliably track.
In short:
Indoors = Bright, even lighting in the swing and flight zone is essential
Outdoors = Works great until the light drops to near-dusk levels
